Naked Running Band Comparison: SL vs Original vs HC
Mark Green
I’ve been using a Naked Running Band for years and it is the most useful running accessory I have ever owned. I reviewed my original band several years ago, and since that time Naked have added two new types of bands to their collection.
In this video I compare the three types of bands,
- SL Band (3″)
- Original Band (4″)
- HC Band (5″)
I’ll show you exactly what fits in each band, how stable they are while you are running, and which type of runner each model suits best.
Naked Running Band SL (3″)
The SL is the smallest band in the range, measuring approximately 3 inches deep.
I think it is best suited to:
- Road runners
- Marathon runners
- Triathletes
- Shorter trail races
- Anyone who likes to carry the bare minimum
You can comfortably carry your phone, nutrition, keys and other small essentials without feeling like you’re wearing a hydration vest.
Naked Running Band Original (4″)
The Original band strikes a nice balance between capacity and comfort.
In mine I can comfortably carry:
- 2 x 500ml soft flasks
- Phone
- 5 gels
- Snake bandage
For most trail runners and ultra runners this will be enough to carry the things you’re most likely to need during a race, while the remainder of your mandatory gear can be stored in your running vest.
Naked Running Band HC (5″)
The HC is the biggest option in the range and was clearly designed with ultra runners in mind.
In mine I can carry:
- 2 x 500ml soft flasks
- Phone
- 5 gels
- Running jacket
- Snake bandage
- Waterproof pants
If you want more carrying capacity, then this is the best option. I would be quite happy doing a 4hr + training run with just this band. If I could only have one Naked band, this would now be it. I find it just as comfortable as the original band.
Features Shared By All Three Bands
All three Naked Running Bands include:
- Race bib attachment toggles at the front
- Pole carry loops at the rear
- Storage for a jacket or extra layer
- Excellent stability while running
- Minimal bounce when fitted correctly
